Biography

Jane Turula is a 1st year P.h.D. student primarily focused on mapping different depictions of and approaches to Providence in literature of the Middle Ages. For her M.A. she examined in Geoffrey Chaucer’s literature various ways in which fate and fortune appear as chaotic, unstoppable entities to characters struggling to accept a possible coexistence between Providence and free will. Additionally, she is interested in discovering symbolic connections to a deeper meaning in Beowulf with the help of Charles S. Peirce’s sign theory.
