Richard A. Strier, Sulzberger Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus at the University of Chicago and the 2013-2014 Religion and Literature lecturer, will offer an informal lunchtime discussion on “Historicism: New, Old, and Otherwise.”  There will be two readings for this discussion: chapter four from Prof. Strier’s book Resistant Structures, and the introduction (“Back to Burkhardt”) from his The Unrepentant Renaissance.  Copies of the readings will be sent to participants via e-mail.

If you would like to register for this event (lunch will be provided, so we need an exact count), please write to Susannah Monta at smonta@nd.edu.

Professor Strier's visit is sponsored by Religion and Literature, the ISLA Henkels Lecture fund, the Department of English, the minor in Philosophy, Religion, and Literature, and the Program of Liberal Studies.
