William Orchard, assistant professor of English at Colby College, will present the lecture "A Graphic Education: Gilbert Hernandez and the Lessons of Iconoclasm" at 4:30 pm on Wednesday, February 13, in 210 McKenna Hall.

William Orchard received his PhD in English from the University of Chicago. His research interests include Latina/o literature, contemporary American literature, visual culture, especially the graphic novel, and theories of gender and sexuality. His current book project, Pictures, Pedagogy, Politics: Latina/o Graphic Novels and the Politics of Representation, investigates the relationships between Chicana/o literature and graphic art forms like the mural, the poster, and the comic book. His articles have appeared in Women’s Studies Quarterly, Encyclopedia Latina, and the Encyclopedia of Latina and Latino Popular Culture.
