Nan Da from the University of Michigan will present the lecture "Becoming Things: Longfellow's fan and Dong Xun's 'Psalm of Life'" at 4:30 pm February 4 in 210 McKenna Hall.

Nan Da is a PhD candidate in English language and literature at the University of Michigan. Her research interests include nineteenth-century Sino-American literary exchanges, late Qing/early Republic writings, and Henry James. Her dissertation, “Occasionality: China, America, and the Uses of Literature 1800–1900,” examines literary exchanges between China and America in the long nineteenth century using materials that have received little scholarly attention. Her article “Washington Irving’s Chinese Americas” is forthcoming in American Literary History, and she is editor of the forthcoming special issue of Signs entitled “Feminist Sinologies.”
