Anila Shree is a fourth year PhD student at Notre Dame. She is interested in the prose fiction produced by women writers in the early eighteenth century with a focus on the texts’ narrative experiments as they seek new ways to represent the self in the world. She wishes to investigate how the notion of self develops out of these writings and how this process is inextricably related to eighteenth century philosophical concerns with epistemology. Challenging the narrative of the rise of the English novel, she aims to reframe some of those conversations to reflect the contributions of eighteenth-century women writers.
