English majors and undergrads interested in adding English as a major are invited to attend our next Griffin Lunch when Professor Gustafson discusses George Saunders, one of the most celebrated and prolific fiction writers in the world today. He is the author of several prize-winning short story collections, and his first novel, Lincoln in the Bardo, won the Man Booker Prize in 2017. Like Lincoln in the Bardo, Saunders's newly released second novel, Vigil, focuses on the interface of life and death as a way to explore personal and social change. This discussion will focus on key scenes from the two novels as they relate to Saunders' Catholic upbringing and his Buddhist practice. Seats are limited. RSVP by Friday, February 20th.
