Location: 128 Decio (View on map )

Join us for a special presentation of Hamid Ismailov’s newest novel, We Computers, translated by Shelley Fairweather-Vega. Both the author and translator will be present for this event.

We Computers follows French poet and psychologist Jon-Perse as he experiments with one of the 20th century’s most revolutionary inventions: the computer. Inspired by Persian poetry shared by his Uzbek collaborator Abdulhamid Ismail, he creates a program capable of analyzing and generating literature. What unfolds is a postmodern journey through history, philosophy, and love, blending Eastern and Western traditions, Sufi classics, and the life of Hafez into a lyrical meditation on poetry in the digital age.

This event is sponsored by the Department of German, Slavic, and Eurasian Studies, the Department of English, the John J. Reilly Center for Science, Technology, and Values, and the Liu Institute for Asia and Asian Studies.
