Jesse McCarthy is an assistant professor in the departments of English and African and African American Studies at Harvard University. His writings on race, literature, politics and music have appeared in The Nation, n+1, Dissent and The Point, where he is also a contributing editor. He is a contributor to forthcoming edited volumes on Ralph Ellison and Richard Wright for Cambridge University Press and an introduction to the new edition of Vincent O. Carter’s The Bern Book from Dalkey Archive Press. He is currently completing a book project, The Blue Period: Black Writing in the Early Cold War, 1945-1965. His first book, a collection of his essays, Who Will Pay Reparations on My Soul? was published by W.W. Norton & Co. in March 2021.
