Four alumnae ladies return to campus to read selections from their latest books.
Kelly Kerney’s first novel, Born Again, was listed among the best debuts of the year by Kirkus Reviews, was a Book Sense Pick, and was recognized by the New York Public Library as one of the best books of 2006. A Virginia Commission for the Arts fellowship recipient, she lives in Richmond, Virginia.
Courtney McDermott is a graduate of Mount Holyoke College and the MFA program at the University of Notre Dame. Her debut collection of short stories, How They Spend Their Sundays (Whitepoint Press 2013) was nominated for both the PEN/Hemingway Award and The Story Prize. Originally from Iowa, she currently lives in the greater Boston area and is the Membership Engagement Coordinator for the American Academy of Arts & Sciences. Janet McNally is author of the young adult novel Girls in the Moon, coming in Fall 2016 from HarperCollins/HarperTeen, and a collection of poems, Some Girls, winner of the White Pine Press Poetry Prize. Her work has appeared in journals including Gettysburg Review, Boulevard, Mid-American Review, Ecotone, and Crazyhorse. She has an MFA in fiction from the University of Notre Dame, and has twice been a fiction fellow with the New York Foundation for the Arts. Lindsay Starck was born in Wisconsin and raised in the Milwaukee Public Library. She earned her B.A. in Literature from Yale, her M.F.A in Fiction from Notre Dame, and her Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. At UNC, she served first as Fiction Editor and then as Editor-in-Chief of The Carolina Quarterly. Her first novel, Noah's Wife, was published by G.P. Putnam's Sons in January 2016. She is currently Assistant Professor of English at Augsburg College in Minneapolis, where she teaches creative writing at the undergraduate level and in the low-residency MFA program. www.lindsaystarck.com
