Zach Hutchins, visiting assistant professor Brigham Young University, will present the lecture "Farmer James Debates John Dickinson: Crèvecoeur, the Stamp Act, and the Epistolary Art of Early American Editorials" at 4:30 pm on January 21 in 210 McKenna Hall.
Hutchins received his PhD from the Department of English and Comparative Literature at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. A revised version of his dissertation, Inventing Eden: Primitivism, Millennialism, and the Making of New England, is now under contract with Oxford University Press. His essays have appeared or are forthcoming in journals such as ELH, Early American Literature, Modern Language Studies, Leviathan, Early American Studies, Nineteenth-Century Literature, and The New England Quarterly. One of his early American literature courses, “American Love Letters,” was recently recognized by the American Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies with its 2011-2012 Innovative Course Design Award.
