Shinan Xu was born in Nanjing, China, and she earned her BA from Ohio State University where she studied English Literature, Creative Writing and Logistics. She started to write poetry in her freshman year when a composition class sparked her interest in poetry. Her poetry explores Chinese identities/myths, and the subversive potential of fairytales. Her work has appeared in Paris American. She is co-editor of Off The Coast an online poetry magazine that features voices of both marginalized and foreign writers, and Farrago, which is cofounded by her and her fellow poets in Ohio.
