Anila Shree, a PhD student at the University of Notre Dame, completed her M.Phil. at Jamila Millia Islamia, Delhi, India. Her dissertation, titled 'The Dean as Drapier: Tracing the Hibernian Roots of Swift as an Intellectual' , focussed on Jonathan Swift's Irish writings to establish his role, as an artist and as an intellectual, in the organization of an Irish nationalist consciousness. In doing so, she has attempted to reread Swift's canonical works by juxtaposing them with his explicitly Irish writings and engaging with the various formulations of the idea of the intellectual. She is also interested in the atmosphere and the milieu of the eighteenth century at large - its place in Western modernity - and the intersections of literature, politics and culture.
