John Protevi Lecture

On Friday, September 19, at 2:00 pm in 119 O'Shaugnessey Hall, Dr. John Protevi will give a lecture titled "Rhythm, Affect, and the Greeks." John Protevi is the Phyllis M Taylor Professor of French Studies and Professor of Philosophy at Louisiana State University. The lecture is open to the public and based on material from his recent book Life, War, Earth: Deleuze and the Sciences (Minnesota, 2013). 
Dr. Protevi works on contemporary French philosophy, dynamical systems theory, and the biological, cognitive, and affective sciences. He also writes extensively on the philosophies of Gilles Deleuze and Michel Foucault. Besides numerous scholarly articles and book chapters, he is the author of Life, War, Earth: Deleuze and the Sciences (Minnesota, 2013), and Political Affect: Connecting the Social and the Somatic (Minnesota, 2009).  He also edited the Yale Dictionary of Continental Philosophy (2006), and currently edits, with Michael Wheeler, the New Directions in Philosophy and Cognitive Science series (Palgrave).
