Lauro Vazquez Biography
Lauro Vazquez was born in Mexico and grew up in northern California. Growing up Latino and an immigrant in this country often translates to a violence of poverty and anonymity. As a Latino, he is a member of an underrepresented, almost invisible population that runs the risk of leaving this earth unrecorded. As a result his poems are written against the collective effort that seeks to render that presence invisible. Poetry is first and foremost a consoling act of resistance that gives a kind of pleasure and gratification; it is an assertion of the self where such an assertion is not permitted.
